UNLOCK THE POTENTIAL
This one is for all the 2nd year Public Relations and Communication students. As we approach the long-awaited finish line of our course, there are just a few hurdles and a bit of sprinting we need to get through. At this point I know many of us are asking ourselves the same question, which is "Am I ready?" and "Can I do this?". Can I a current PR student become a successful Public Relations Practitioner of a successful organisation or a Public Relations consultant? Doubt is inevitable and avoidable, sooner or later one questions themselves.
The way I see it, instead of questioning yourself negatively as a future PRP, why not focus on what you are good at, what you can offer an organisation, what are your strengths and your abilities to take advantage of them. Sharpen your swords, polish your amour and prepare yourself for battle! Show what you're capable of, take all that you have learned and familiarise yourself with it. Know your work, so you have a clue to what you are doing when you enter the industry. As we are still in the learning phase, we have to be aware of what is expected of us in future, take all the opportunities that are made available for us.
We should all be prepared for what an organisation expects from us, we have to bring something to the table. As PRPs we will have to work with other departments to come up with strategies that will benefit the organisation in a positive way, we have to use different platforms to reach people, keep up with technological developments that we might be able to take advantage of, be prepared for anything that comes our way and deal with many other matters concerning the organisation. We need to help come up with smart, creative and fresh methods to keep the organisation in people's minds and conversations. We are the keys of the future communication of organisations between their internal and external audiences, we are the generation of new technology and we have to unlock these technologies and use them for our organisation's benefit.
